Sound(s) Matter(s) is my entry selected by Cities and Memory for their Sound of the Year 2023 album. The brief called for the selection of one of numerous field recordings to be used as the foundation for an original piece.
This piece is about the concept of space as sound. Space perceived not as a visual but as auditory, the connective tissue weaving through all objects in the world, extending from the periphery to the heart that creates a remarkable global polyphony.
My choice fell upon the recording of a political rally in Manchester, England. It evoked a memory of a lecture I attended where Mathias Hinkeon discussed demonstrations and festive cultures while exploring the role of sound in non-musical social settings and practices.
Here you have my reimagined version of the Manchester political rally, from the album Sounds of the Year 2023, released on December 14, 2023.
I encourage you to explore the entire album, you'll discover several hidden gems.
